The role:

The Senior MSL Manager leads and develops a UK team of Medical Liaison Scientists ensuring all activities are aligned with the Company and Brand Plans and in accordance with relevant legislation.

To work effectively in a coordinated manner with the Regional Business Managers, and the KAM teams to ensure that business plans are integrated, that effective decision making takes place & that the activities of line reports are aligned & coordinated to implement the Medical plan.

The Senior MSL Manager will additionally play a vital role in initiating and sustaining an exchange of scientific information on a peer to peer basis with healthcare professionals (HCPs) at a regional and national level.

Pre-licence medical activities, include; Researching, developing and enhancing a strong network of Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) that will be important in the development of a product. Responding to medical queries from HCPs. Co-ordinating key medical meetings prior to launch. Supporting payor teams with therapy and product knowledge. Co-ordinating review of research proposals from HCPs. Post licence activities will include all of the above

Accountabilities / Measures:

Develop and implement an effective Medical Liaison plan

Lead and manage all members of the Medical Liaison team to maximise their motivation and performance

Work to ensure that high performing people are recruited, developed and retained in the organisation

Product/Brand Reference Point

Develop and maintain contacts with External Experts

Contributor to Healthcare professional focused Activity

Support and Train

Contributor to Brand Plans & Strategies


Clinical Trial/Survey Identification & Planning



A PhD is strongly preferred; however a degree must be gained in one or more of the following disciplines: medicine, nursing, pharmacy or the pharmaceutical/life sciences.

Person/Experience Required


Experience in the healthcare environment

Proven experience of leading a field based Medical/clinical or sales team in the pharmaceutical industry or healthcare environment

Must have proven experience of presenting complex scientific information and participation at advisory boards to HCPs at varying levels including KOLs

Ability to quickly and comprehensively learn about new therapy areas and environments.

Knowledge of the UK National Healthcare System and the pharmaceutical industry.

Competent user of Microsoft Office software products

Full driving licence


Planning, co-ordination and chairing educational meetings

Experience of working in the Cardiovascular market

Working experience of the ABPI Code of practice relevant to the role is desired.

Knowledge of clinical trial design and process.

Advanced presentation skills
