Star signing for Virgo



Sue Neilen has joined Virgo Health as Head of the Communications division. Joining from specialist health advertising agency Langland where she led corporate communications, Sue’s appointment reflects the growing need for pharmaceutical companies to focus more heavily on their corporate communications strategy, reputation management and employee engagement.

Virgo’s Managing Director Ondine Whittington says, “We are thrilled to have Sue on board as her broad expertise and experience will be invaluable to our clients. The Virgo Communications offering has evolved rapidly over the last few years to support our clients through what is often a challenging health communications landscape. Fundamentally this is about offering a much more integrated approach that focuses on creating strategies that support our clients’ assets from the pipeline to the patient at a product, portfolio and corporate level. In a world where companies are under more scrutiny than ever before, creating congruence between the way a company behaves and the way it communicates at every level of the organisation is vital.”

Having seen exponential growth in Virgo’s corporate communications portfolio including work with Roche and Janssen, Sue’s extensive expertise strengthens the company’s corporate and internal communications offering.

In a career spanning more than 20 years, Sue started out as a broadcast journalist in Melbourne before opportunities led her to London where she worked for Worldwide Television and the BBC, before moving to Geneva. There, as a creative for Saatchi & Saatchi, she served blue chip clients ranging from top 10 pharma to NGO's, including the Red Cross and the World Health Organization. Later, on behalf of the European Broadcasting Union, her strategic input included crisis communications for the Eurovision Song Contest and public affairs communications around the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra WW1 Concert, uniting EU heads of state in a politically sensitive moment in time.   

Senior Account Manager, Francesca Morley, also returns from maternity leave to work across some of Virgo Health Communication’s global and UK accounts. This includes employer branding and reputation management for Roche, the international launch of a new medical device for LEO Pharma and Novartis’s Hear & Now campaign - an alternative to the pink ribbon campaign which focuses on shifting perceptions and changing policy relating to women with the advanced from of breast cancer.
